Château Smith-Haut-Lafitte

Cru Classé de Graves

“It is thanks to its superb 67-hectare single-block terroir of Garonne gravel that Smith Haut Lafitte owes its reputation as the ‘most Graves of the Graves.'” The history of this estate dates back to the Crusades (hence the fleurs-de-lis on the coat of arms). In the 18th century, Scottish navigator George Smith settled there, followed by Mr. Duffour-Dubergier, Master of Bordeaux, and then by Louis Eschenauer, a major figure in Bordeaux trade. Daniel and Florence Cathiard also fell under the spell of this property. They restored the 16th-century tower, renovated the 18th-century charterhouse, redesigned two underground cellars, revived traditional soil work, eliminated herbicides, and integrated their own cooperages. Undoubtedly, the exemplary elegance and ample, structured balance of the great white and red wines of Smith Haut Lafitte justify this passion for total quality.
