The Syndicat
of Pessac-Léognan

The Pessac-Léognan AOC was created in December 1987, under the impetus of Mr André Lurton, the founding President.

Since then, we have been working to restore this unique terroir, threatened by urbanisation. Covering more than 1800 hectares, the Pessac-Léognan appellation has now regained its original territory. Our aim is to strengthen our position in the world of wine while preserving the authenticity of our terroir and promoting our winegrowers, the true artisans of these exceptional wines.

For over 35 years, Pessac-Léognan has pursued a dynamic policy of promoting the Appellation and its wines :

  • To the general public, during Open Doors weekends in December and June for over 25 years.
  • To wine-lovers in France and abroad, by organising tastings in France (Biarritz, Monaco, Paris, Nice, Rennes, Nantes, Toulouse, Lille, etc.) and internationally in major European cities such as Brussels, London, Amsterdam, Zurich, Geneva, Montreux, Lausanne, etc.
  • For professionals, with events aimed at wine merchants, restaurateurs and incoming agencies, importers and international wine merchants with the Primeurs Opening night and student sommeliers at the Pessac-Léognan Trophy, organised every year since 2003.

This impetus is also reflected on a scientific level, thanks to regular exchanges with the wine research institutes present in the Appellation, such as the ISVV, Inrae and Bordeaux Sciences Agro.

Pessac-Léognan, on the outskirts of Bordeaux, has become one of the world’s leading wine tourism regions thanks to the history of its Châteaux, its heritage, its terroir and its great red and white wines.
