Château Gazin-Rocquencourt

Taken over in late 2005 by the Bonnie family, owners of Château Malartic-Lagravière, the origins of Château Gazin Rocquencourt date back to the Middle Ages. Founded in the 15th century, it is known as one of the oldest wine estates in the commune of Léognan, with the earliest records of vineyards dating back to 1468, when it was owned by Guillem de Gazen. The residence, still inhabited by Jean-Jacques and his family, dates back to 1660. Located a few hundred meters from Malartic, the 22 hectares of vineyards at Gazin Rocquencourt have always received the same care as the Grand Cru Classé. Now integrated into the parcels of Malartic, the Gazin Rocquencourt vineyard is still tended by the teams of the Grand Cru Classé to produce, when the vintage allows, a cuvée that reflects the soul of this centuries-old estate. The Merlots and Cabernets form a superb red blend, while the Sauvignon produces a sought-after white wine. Located on a splendid ridge of dry gravel on the left bank of the Eau Blanche in Léognan, its vineyard is certified for sustainable agriculture and HVE, with minimal intervention manual methods and an overall philosophy of agroecology. A product of this ancient terroir, the wines of Gazin Rocquencourt exhibit superb aging potential and are acclaimed by top professionals. They thus solidify their place among the leading estates of the Pessac-Léognan appellation.
